This position features a strong team-based culture focused on breaking down silos and supporting multiple providers.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Clinic Flow & Floating: Float dynamically between two busy clinic floors (2nd and 3rd floors) to support 8 surgeons and 3–4 Physician Assistants (PAs). Note: No coverage required on the Surgery Center (ASC) floor.
  • Patient Care: Room patients, obtain accurate vital signs, take patient histories, and document chief complaints.
  • Volume Management: Efficiently manage high patient volumes (Surgeons average 20–24 patients/day; PAs average 15–20 patients/day).
  • Provider Support: Assist providers with clinical procedures, arrange exam room instruments, prepare sterile fields using vigorous aseptic techniques, and hold/position patients safely during exams or imaging.
  • Chart Prep & Documentation: Perform comprehensive chart prepping at least once a week. Accurately document all patient encounters in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
  • Communication & Triage: Perform phone triage, make post-op calls, respond to voicemails within 24 business hours, and coordinate diagnostic testing/care at outside facilities.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: High school graduate (or equivalent) and graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Licensure: Active Washington State Certified Medical Assistant (preferred) or active Registered Medical Assistant verified with the Department of Health (DOH).
  • Exclusion: Candidates with strictly an MAP (Medical Assistant-Phlebotomist) background are not a fit.
  • Experience: Prior experience in a high-volume, busy clinic is required. Orthopedic experience is preferred but not required (training is provided).
  • New Grads: Open to motivated new graduates who possess a strong drive, excellent personality, and the ability to train up quickly.
  • Technology: Familiarity with Epic (Providence Community Connect) and/or NextGen is a major plus, though comprehensive training will be provided during the first few weeks.

Perks & Culture

  • Robust Training Period: Includes a multi-week structured onboarding process involving shadowing a senior MA, regular feedback loops, and direct provider guidance.
  • Employee Appreciation: Active culture of appreciation featuring sponsored leadership events, local food trucks, custom frozen yogurt setups, and high-quality gifts (e.g., custom water bottles, beach blankets).
